While some Nordic noirs have not fared so well crossing the Atlantic, the US remake of The Bridge has certainly made solid connections for FOX International Channels (FIC).
The Bridge is a co-production from Shine America and FX Productions. Whereas the original Bron began with the mysterious discovery of a body placed exactly halfway between Denmark and Sweden on the Øresund Bridge and subsequently switched between Copenhagen and Malmö, FOX's offering explores tensions on the US-Mexico border when an American judge known for her anti-immigration views is found dead on the bridge connecting El Paso and Juarez.
FIC revealed that the drama's first episode brought in more than three million consolidated viewers for an average rating of 1.58 in FIC's 19 metered pay-TV markets, including Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Finland, Italy, Portugal, Poland, Spain, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia. When projected to FIC's total distribution the episode grows to 4.5 million viewers and the worldwide premiere viewership for The Bridge reached over nine million viewers when adding FX's domestic totals.
FIC is co-financing partner on the FX Productions/Shine America series for which it has worldwide first-window broadcast rights. The Bridge marks FIC's latest investment in a rapidly expanding slate of original programming and follows the worldwide simultaneous premiere strategy pioneered by FIC with season one of The Walking Dead, and replicated since with multiple shows, most recently Da Vinci's Demons.
