The NDN newsroom digital media exchange is to standardise on technology from Akamai to power the workflow behind its premium content, video and ad serving, analytics and monetisation services.
NDN offers what it claims is a unique video content syndication and advertising solution for the online media market with a centralised platform featuring premium news, finance, travel, entertainment and sports content. Its player suite and content management tools are designed to eliminate infrastructure and operating costs while creating monetisation opportunities for publishers.
Under the terms of the deal, NDN will make use of Akamaiís Sola Media Solutions, in particular the Sola Vision content preparation and Sola Sphere delivery modules. These will be deployed to process and distribute thousands of hours of time-sensitive news video content to more than 4,500 publisher partner websites every month.
The Sola Media Solutions combine transcoding and stream packaging with content distribution and network storage to form a cloud-based workflow that NDN hopes will simplify its video management requirements. In addition NDN will aim to address what it calls rising partner and consumer expectations of online video performance and accessibility across connected devices.
"NDN's deep engagement with Akamai is allowing us and our partners to provide significant efficiencies in terms of content management and delivery while also gaining valuable insights into video performance and viewer behaviour," said Eric Orme, chief technology officer, NDN. "It's now easier than ever for news publishers to populate their sites with relevant, high quality video, proven to drive engagement and expand monetisation opportunities."
