Huawei has been selected by Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Bogotà (ETB) to implement an interactive solution for the company's IPTV cable network in Colombia.
According to Europa Press, ETB plans to modernise its infrastructure in order to keep pace with its two main competitors: América Móvil and Telefónica.
The Colombian operator has announced that it intends to launch an HDTV interactive service through a broadband connection to operate in a multiscreen environment. Video-on-demand (VOD), recorded schedule (DVR) and time-shifted TV will be included in an advanced platform.
No financial details have been given regarding the deal between the Latin operator and the Chinese manufacturer, but Huawei will provide an end-to-end solution with all the required components. The company offers the same kind of services to over 13 million subscribers around the world, through 46 different commercial solutions.
"This is one of the most innovative projects of Colombia's TV in the last years", said Lu Qi, Huawei's manager for Colombia. "By working together with ETV we reinforce our leadership in digital solutions for the telecoms and TV industry".
ETB is one of the biggest telcos of Colombia and provides 34% of the country's broadband services. It's 88.4% owned by the city council of the capital, Bogotá.
