Spanish cable company Telecable has launched Tedi, a new brand for its interactive TV service. Through an advanced set-top box, the regional operator's new service centres on video-on-demand (VOD), with an initial catalogue of over 600 films which will be renewed monthly, DVR and HD.
For the moment, the DVR won't be cloud-based as the recorded content will be stored in a set-top box, which includes a 500GB hard disk, enough to record up to 250 hours. Tedi also offers time-shifted TV, which gives the opportunity to go back and forward during live broadcasting.
What is a cloud service is the Novisto option. This feature allows the viewer to view every type of programme broadcast within past seven days.
Tedi is also Telecable's high definition service. TNT, Fox, Fox Crime, AXN, Calle 13, Cosmo, Hollywood, Odisea, Viajar, National Geographic, Nat Geo Wild, Disney Channel, Eurosport, Canal+ Liga, MTV Live, MGM and Xtrm will all be offered in HD on the service.
Telecable will launch Tedi for free for three months for current customers. The platform has a stable client base but the financial data published in its last report was not too optimistic, which may be why it is trying to secure this base by offering a new service.
Telecable focuses on a small market in northern Spain, but its competition in cable pay-TV isn't really strong. The only true competitors are the new online and on-demand platforms, against which Tedi is aiming to fight.
