Spanish pay-TV channel Cosmopolitan TV is to air the US version of Masterchef, following the success of the Spanish version broadcast by TVE and produced by Shine Iberia.

The format has been reproduced worldwide and has gathered over 200 million viewers throughout the nearly 40 different countries in which it has been broadcast.

The UK's original format will launch on the channel in September. Cosmopolitan TV is to broadcast the first two US seasons in the late afternoon in order to reinforce a timeslot in which it has mostly been broadcasting films.

Presented by award-winning chef Gordon Ramsay, Masterchef looks for the best amateur cook in the US. As with the BBC and TVE versions, the cooks compete for a $250,000 award and a contract to publish their own cookery book.

TVE's version broadcast its first season a few months ago and was a huge success. The final episode gave the channel over 5.5 million viewers and a 33.1% share.

Cosmopolitan intends to increase audience figures from September, when it's also going to launch its first in-house production, We Love Tamara.
