Total Sports Asia (TSA) and Mediapro have signed an agreement to bring the FC Barcelona channel Barça TV to Asia to meet the increasing demand for Barça's football content in the region.
The bases of the deal were set during the team's tour at the beginning of August, according to Diario Gol.
This is the first time that Mediapro has sold the entire rights of the channel to be broadcast abroad. While the deal means the team increases its presence in one of the biggest markets worldwide, the Malaysian company gets exclusive rights to distribute Barça TV through various operators.
Since the channel was launched in 1999, this is the first time it will be watched abroad at the same time as in Spain. Until now, Barça TV sold content slots which were distributed after being broadcast.
"We are proud of having the opportunity to work with a worldwide sport icon such as Barça is, and the Asian channels will have the opportunity to broadcast the most attractive side of football," said Julian Jackson, content manager at TSA.
Lately Mediapro has been increasing Real Madrid TV's distribution, making the channel available free-to-air through the Internet.
