Rex Ryan continually talks about how much he loves the quarterbacks on the New York Jets roster. Now it looks like he has one more to heap praise on.
The Jets have agreed to terms with Graham Harrell, who was recently cut by the Green Bay Packers, according to multiple reports. Fox Sports first reported the news.
Harrell joins a well-known if underwhelming quarterback group in New York. Mark Sanchez continues to recover from a shoulder injury and will not play in Thursday's preseason finale. Questions swirl around rookie Geno Smith's readiness to take on a starting NFL job. Backups Greg McElroy and Matt Simms have been competing for the final quarterback job.
Harrell lost the backup job in Green Bay to Vince Young last week. Much has been made of Mike McCarthy's backups, but after three seasons in Green Bay, Harrell never blossomed. It's telling that McCarthy was willing to clip him in favor of a player not on a roster in 2012.
Harrell will join McElroy and Simms in what Ryan has described as a heated competition for the third quarterback job.
