Swiss solutions supplier for the connected home, Advanced Digital Broadcast (ABD), has announced the launch of ADB Multi-Screen, a software suite combining broadcast and broadband delivery with home network content redistribution.
ADB Multi-Screen has already been deployed by Poland's satellite operator, nc+ which has remotely configured its deployed ADB set-top boxes (STBs) with the multi-screen software, enabling the STBs to act as a digital TV gateway for other STBs and iOS/Android devices.
ADB Multi-Screen's software-only solution can be downloaded to ADB set-top boxes already in use, and dispenses with the need for a hardware transcoder.
"Pay-TV operators can make significant Capex savings from not having to invest in new hardware platforms, while also improving the ROI on ADB STBs already in customers' homes," the company points out.
ADB Multi-Screen incorporates full content protection and enables operators to deliver linear broadcast TV, over-the-top (OTT) video, rich metadata and related services to STBs and iOS/Android tablets and smartphones.
When subscribers are on the move, ADB Multi-Screen uses a cloud-based model to redistribute live broadcast channels to authorised mobile devices.
