The defenders of five consecutive NCAA titles will begin their 2013 campaign at the top once again. The USC menís water polo team are in search of a sixth consecutive national championship this season, and the Trojans are deservingly so picked as the nationís No. 1 team in the preseason polls.
1. USC 100
2. UCLA 91
3. Stanford 88
4. Cal 87
5. Pacific 84
Complete poll,
USC rolled undefeated through its 2012 campaign, winning its eighth MPSF Tournament title and going on to claim its eighth overall national championship. The Trojans graduated five members of that 2012 team, but the depth of talent is still pooled deep at Troy. National Player of the Year Nikola Vavic leads a group of five All-Americans, including four of its top-five scorers from last season. All-Americans James Clark and Kostas Genidounias return from international waters having competed at the FINA World Championships this past summer, rejoining fellow All-Americans Jeremy Davie and Mace Rapsey as an experienced and savvy corps of talent for the season to come.
In all, USC brings back nine Trojans who scored at least 10 goals last season.
Eleven-time National Coach of the Year Jovan Vavic is at the helm once again, preparing his troops for another season. The Trojans hauled in 100 points in the national preseason poll to take the lead entering 2013. UCLA, which USC beat in the 2012 national championship game, is next in line at No. 2 with 91 points. Stanford follows at No. 3 with 88 points, edging out California at No. 4 with 87 points, while Pacific rounds out the nationís top-5 with 84 points in the poll.
