Must-see sports—notably Ashes and the arrival of the new Premier League football season—have led to Sky notching record figures for multiplatform viewing.
The leading UK pay-TV channel concluded that more fans than ever before are enjoying their sport through mobile devices and second screen. It saw the biggest ever usage of its Sky Sports News app on smartphones with over 3 million unique users on both Android and iPhone while over 4 million monthly unique users accessed the Sky Sports Football Score Centre across iPhone, Android and Blackberry phones and tablets.
The month also proved to be a record month for Sky Sports for iPad, with well more than 560,000) unique users checking into the app and the #SkyDeadlineDay hash tag was used on Twitter 146,000 times whilst @SkySportsNews had 194,000 mentions.
In August 20123, Sky Sports also recorded its biggest ever month of usage across its award-winning digital platforms. There were more than 16 million Sky Go viewing sessions for the Sky Sports Ashes channel throughout the series and the first day of the Premier League on 17 August saw over 355,000 people tuning in to watch on Sky Go.
As the new month arrived, Sky says that it set a new record on Transfer Deadline Day, 2 September, with nearly 6.9 million unique users across all Sky Sports digital products such as skysports.com, Sky Sports apps and Sky Sports Football Score Centre. The day also saw skysports.com rack up over 3.2 million unique users to while daily unique users for Sky Sports Mobile services reached 3.7 million.
