Yahoo! is joining the mobile video fray with the launch of Yahoo! Screen and an attendant content library, aimed at letting users sift through and watch video on smartphones and tablets. The app is only available for Apple's iPhone and iPad for now, but Yahoo! intends to develop a Google Android version soon.

On the content discovery front, users of Yahoo! Screen can swipe to flip through programmes and sort through about 20 different channels, separated into categories such as celebrities, sports, games and food. Users can browse through trending clips or search for shows. Swiping left and right skips between episodes and swiping up and down flips through channels.
As far as content goes, the Internet giant is making video from its website available on the free service. It also has inked brand new deal with Viacom to bring clips from some of Comedy Central's best shows, including the Daily Show with Jon Stewart and the Colbert Report. It also has the exclusive rights to the digital clip archive of Saturday Night Live, and has signed up new shows featuring stars like Jack Black in Ghost Ghirls and John Stamos in Losing It With John Stamos. In total, viewers have more than 1,000 hours of comedy to watch.
"We want Yahoo! Screen to be a place where you can customise your experience to your liking while continually discovering new things to watch and share," said Robby Stein, director of product management at Yahoo! "We hope to make Yahoo! Screen the destination for the world's best video creators and their awesome content."
