Vivendi's supervisory board has unanimously decided to launch a study to split the group into two separate companies: a new international media group based in France and the telco SFR.
The media group would hold very strong positions in music worldwide, the Internet and associated services in Brazil, European cinema, as well as in pay-TV in France, Africa, Poland and Vietnam with Canal+ Group.
As a separate entity, SFR would gain greater freedom on strategy and developing partnerships.
The final decision regarding this split could be taken at the beginning of next year and submitted to the 2014 shareholders' meeting.
To prepare this new organisation, Jean-René Fourtou, chairman of the supervisory board, proposed the appointment of Vincent Bolloré as vice chairman of the board, who owns 5% of the group.
