Specialising in multiscreen user interfaces, French company Dotscreen has announced the roll-out of a set of applications under the HbbTV standard as well as second-screen app innovations for smartphones and tablets.
Dotscreen is conducting an ongoing project with the French group Sagemcom to develop 'companion apps' that will run under any technical environment (iOS, Android, Windows 8, etc).
This project will take form at the end of the year with a major European operator who will offer such functionalities as the control of set-top boxes, viewing of TV programmes on a second screen, or the transcoding of available videos into over-the-top (OTT) by a set-top box.
The new HbbTV application suite includes a portal and VOD applications, catch-up TV, an electronic programme guide, radio/audio, weather, zapping banner, traffic news, horoscopes and news.
It is offered under licence to all television channels and digital operators (satellite, cable, IPTV, DTT).
This software suite adds to the catalogue of some 20 HbbTV applications currently being broadcast, mainly by TF1, France Télévisions, France24, Globecast, TDF and Fransat.
