Portugal’s ZON Multimedia has made the significant enhancements to its delivery infrastructure to power DVB-S and DVB-C transport streams.
To realise its plans to provide pay-TV services, including mobile, on any screen the leading pay-TV operator and content provider has deployed software-based video processing and delivery solutions provider Envivio.
Provided through its official Portuguese representative, Satcab, Envivio supplied Muse encoders on the Envivio 4CasterG4 Intel-based appliance, with Envivio Spark receivers and multiplexers. These are designed to deliver high quality video in variable bitrate (VBR) format for cable and satellite broadcast TV channels. Simultaneously, the Muse encoders are producing constant bitrate (CBR) video for non-linear TV service delivery, as well as adaptive bit-rate (ABR) services for multiscreen. The head-end infrastructure is managed and controlled using Envivio’s network management system.
“We were interested in replacing part of our previous systems with an end-to-end solution that supports both the TV service and streaming to Internet-connected devices, and Envivio provides the best solution to meet those needs,” said José Pascoal, planning and engineering director at ZON Multimedia. “The Envivio Muse encoders offer excellent video quality for statistical multiplexing of our DVB-S and DVB-C broadcast channels, while also simultaneously creating outputs for the various mobile resolutions we require.”
