MTV Media’s web TV service Katsomo has now expanded to Smart TV sets. Owners of Samsung Smart TVs are now able to watch live sports and the biggest Finnish entertainment shows straight on their own TVs via the Katsomo application.
Content includes both pay-TV services as well as free content. The technical development was carried out by TV app solutions specialist Accedo.
Katsomo offers all of the sports televised on channels included on the pay-TV package MTV3 Total, including the world ice hockey championships and F1. It also serves as a catch-up service for MTV Media’s three free-to-air channels, MTV3, Sub and AVA. Programming includes the biggest Finnish entertainment and reality shows, a large selection of TV dramas and comedies from Hollywood and other popular content.
Henrik Laine, head of web at MTV Media, said: “People still want to watch the best stuff on the big screen. It’s a remarkable step forward to be able to offer the whole Katsomo package straight through the Samsung Smart TVs.
“Accedo has created a truly top notch implementation of our Katsomo service on the Samsung platform.
Elin Askfelt, VP EMEA Accedo, added: “We are pleased to be working with MTV Media to launch this new application on Samsung Smart TVs. This service will be an attractive offering for consumers, with both live sports and catch-up TV services, two of the most popular categories for Smart TV consumption.”
Markus Nummisalo, sales director for Samsung TVs, said: “Samsung is always looking to expand the variety of content for Smart TV users, and MTV Media’s Katsomo service is an excellent addition to the offering. Now all the sports from MTV MEDIA’s sports channels can be viewed live or even later as on demand on Samsung’s Smart TVs."
