Sweden's Telenor has selected ARRIS' set-top boxes (STBs) to grow its IPTV service. The company will be deploying the VIP2853 STBs at the beginning of next year and expects to improve customer experience with the new HD programming, on-demand (VOD) service and high quality IPTV viewing.
ARRIS' VIP2853 features a removable DVR memory module which will allow Telenor customers to add extra memory to catch up with their favourite programmes.
The deal between the companies was announced at IBC, together with several business projects ARRIS is planning for Europe. "We are transforming how service providers such as Telenor deliver entertainment and communications without boundaries, enabling seamless content experiences in the home to meet the needs of today's demanding consumers," said Steve McCaffery, senior VP at ARRIS.
The VIP2853 is powered by the KreaTV operating system and has low power consumption, meeting the European Codes of Conduct for energy efficiency. "Our IPTV service in Sweden is set for growth and we need to provide our customers with the best set-top we can. ARRIS has worldwide IPTV leadership, which gives us confidence to launch new, enhanced services based on its set-top and platform developed locally in Sweden", explained Mikael Färjsjö, Telenor's head of TV.
