SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Tonya Fabian scored the game’s lone goal in the 14th minute to give Indiana (Pa.) a 1-0 win in a tight battle against eighth-ranked Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women’s soccer action Saturday.
Stout defense and late shots by Slippery Rock made for a close game, but the Crimson Hawks were able to pull off the narrow win.
The Rock (1-1-1) came out strong, producing three shots in the first 12 minutes, but goalkeeper Mara Hricik was able to keep pace making her first three saves on the game on those shots. The game was yet another strong one for Hricik, who has only let up one goal so far this season.
Despite the early charge by Slippery Rock, IUP was able to score when Fabian found the back of the net off a pass from Kate Numer. That was all that the Crimson Hawks would need to find their third win of the season.
Slippery Rock worked hard in the waning minutes in an attempt to tie up the game, but fell short as a goal in the 86th minute was taken away due to an offsides violation. Following that, IUP’s defense stepped in and did not allow any more shots as the final minutes ticked off.
