German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland wants to launch a TV channel in the new TV format UltraHD which offers a resolution four times higher than the current HD standard.
"Sky Deutschland is developing an UltraHD offering which will probably launch in 18 to 24 months," CEO Brian Sullivan told news agency Reuters. "UltraHD will be one of our drivers of revenue in future."
To give viewers a glimpse at the TV future, Sky Deutschland has formed a partnership with South Korean electronics manufacturer Samsung. In time for this year's Christmas sales period, both companies want to showcase UltraHD content on Samsung TV sets in retail stores, for example sports events and movies.
