Hindi television news channel Sahara Samay NCR has been rebranded as Samay Rajasthan, and will now concentrate on Rajasthan rather than the three Indian states of Rajasthan, Delhi and Haryana as before.
“We felt that Rajasthan needed exclusive dedication and by being in three different states, we weren’t giving them justice,” Sanjay Banerjee, editor (network operations) and news coordination, Sahara Samay is quoted as saying by Indiantelevision.com.
The rebranding in Rajasthan comes as the Subrato Roy-promoted Sahara Group readies itself for the official launch on 26 September of the western India-specific news channel Sahara Samay Mumbai.
“The USP of Sahara Samay Mumbai is complete and total identification with the city of Mumbai, Maharashtra and parts of Gujarat and later Goa. My idea is to convert a city tabloid into television,” said the channel’s chief, Rajiv K Bajaj - formerly president of the IN Network and editor of The Daily.
“A total of 32 bulletins (including updates) interspersed with local programming that includes talk shows, events, music, product launches, campus colour and investigative in-depth programmes will provide the channel that extra edge required to take over eyeball time in the city and elsewhere.”
The content will include game shows, Ganeshotsav Awards, Durga Pooja Navratri, Christmas celebrations, Goa Carnival, Miss Mumbai, Miss Pune, and a number of sports and festival shows aimed at school children. Traditional Indian sports including kabbadi, kho-kho, wrestling and bullock cart racing will also be covered on Sahara Samay Mumbai.
