KabelKiosk to expand HD line-up

KabelKiosk, the direct-to-cable platform operated by Eutelsat in Germany for cable companies and IPTV providers, will considerably increase its high definition (HD) proposition on 5 November.
With a total of 17 channels, the Basis HD package will then contain over twice as many HD channels as before, turning KabelKiosk into Germany's largest provider of commercial HD channels for cable networks.
The portfolio will comprise for the first time TV group RTL's complete HD line-up including RTL Nitro HD and n-tv HD. Also part of the line-up will be HD channels provided by ProSiebenSat.1 as well as further channels including Comedy Central HD, DMAX HD, Nickelodeon HD, Sport1 HD, Tele 5 HD and VIVA HD.
Cable operators Tele Columbus and PrimaCom will be among the first KabelKiosk partners to make the expanded HD line-up available to their customers. At the same time, Tele Columbus will drop basic encryption of commercial free-to-air channels in standard definition. 40 commercial TV channels including the services operated by RTL and ProSiebenSat.1 will be available unencrypted with any reception device –– without a smartcard or additional costs. The HD signals of the commercial channels will remain encrypted.
