Fifty direct to home (DTH) satellite TV channels are soon to be launched in India, in a boost to the country’s educational sector.
India’s Human and Resource Development (HRD) secretary, Ashok Thakur, said the educational initiative is one of the largest of its kind anywhere in the world, and will see the broadcast of live interactive channels aimed at students.
“Later on the number of the channels will be increased to one thousand,” Thakur said, according to KUNA. “Over 400 universities and twenty thousand colleges have been linked with bandwidth of these channels,” he added.
As part of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT), Thakur said the entire country could become one large classroom. In particular, the initiative will help engineering colleges in remote areas.
