The New York Television Festival has announced that the US premiere of Hulu's upcoming comedy thriller, The Wrong Mans, will be the signature red carpet event during closing night of the ninth annual NYTVF.

Taking place on 26 October at Tribeca Cinemas, a debut screening of the series' first two episodes will be followed by a talk-back featuring creators, writers and stars.

The Wrong Mans centres on Sam and Phil, two lowly office workers who become caught up in a deadly criminal conspiracy after Sam discovers a ringing phone at the scene of a horrific car crash. Answering this phone turns his world upside down, as he and Phil soon realise it's up to them to step up and save the day. They are in the wrong place at the wrong time, with the wrong skills. They are The Wrong Mans.

Hulu's second co-production with BBC brokered by BBC Worldwide Americas, the Wrong Mans is co-written by and co-starring Tony Award-winner James Corden (Doctor Who, Gavin & Stacey, Gulliver's Travels) and Mathew Baynton (Peep Show, Spy, Gavin & Stacey), with director and producer Jim Field Smith (Episodes, Butter, She's Out of My League).

"This project represents the very best of what's happening in the television landscape and how the art form, as we know it, is evolving," said NYTVF Founder Terence Gray. "We are thrilled and honoured to debut The Wrong Mans as part of the 2013 Festival line-up and look forward to sharing the series with our community of creators and TV fans two weeks before it premieres in the US on Hulu."

The ninth annual New York Television Festival kicks off on Monday 21 October and will feature nearly 80 free events, including competition screenings of selections in its flagship Independent Pilot Competition as well as panel series tackling the digital content landscape and creative development for TV.
