Mediaset grabs online TV leadership in Spain

Battered by economic woes Spain may be, but the country’s online TV market is proving hugely popular with Mediaset regaining market leadership, according to data from Nielsen.
With the exception of July, Mediaset has been the No 1 Spanish online TV provider over the course of 2013, and in September 2013 it racked up 18.5 million unique views, a 22% year-on-year rise.
The company was comfortably ahead of the next private broadcast company, Telecinco, which hit 15.4 million unique browsers, itself rising impressively by 22% on an annual basis. The top five was completed by Cuatro, Mitele and Divinity with 4.7 million, 4.25 million 1.63 million unique browsers respectively. Each showed similar impressive growth, the former two in the high 20s percentage-wise and Divinity up by 40%.
By contrast, state broadcaster RTVE Group delivered more than 14.35 million browsers from four million unique visitors when including the websites of RTVE and RNE.
