Orange-owned Dailymotion has announced the opening of a new subsidiary in Japan, called Dailymotion Japan KK, headquartered in Tokyo.
With over 11 million unique visitors per month, Japan is Dailymotion's third largest market behind France and the United States, and is experiencing a strong mobile audience growth this year.
The new venture, which will use part of the €30 million given to Dailymotion to consolidate and develop by Orange, aims to create partnerships with local content publishers and advertisers as the market for online advertising is experiencing significant growth in Japan.
"Japan is a priority market for us with an already strong audience, especially via smartphones. It is the logical next step for Dailymotion to consolidate its presence with a dedicated subsidiary in Japan that will be able to develop new networks and address other local issues," said Cédric Tournay, CEO of Dailymotion.
The video-sharing platform is also looking to make an external growth operation within a month in Europe and is in advanced talks with a potential partnering company.
Dailymotion achieves 120 million unique visitors and 2.5 billion video views per month worldwide.
