Lifestyle Popcorn NetflixNetflix has secured the exclusive pay TV rights for all animation and live action movies in the Netherlands from Walt Disney Studios.
The multi-year deal becomes effective early 2014 and comprises new and library product from all Disney studios, Disney, Disney Pixar and Marvel with titles such as Marvelís The Avengers, Monsters University and The Lone Ranger.
Back titles include Ratatouille, Wall-E, Pirates of the Caribbean, Curse of the Black Pearl, The Jungle Book, The Muppets, UP as well as classic library titles including Mary Poppins and Lady and the Tramp. Also included are productions from ABC, including episodes of Lost.
The deal between Netflix and Disney is a blow for the two main Dutch pay-TV broadcasters, Chellomediaís Film1 and HBO. It is a significant development that Disney Studios has chosen a OTT provider rather than one of the traditional, established premium platforms.
