As Lionel Messi’s Barcelona battle with AC Milan on the pitch in the Champions League, off the pitch BSkyB will be teaming with Twitter to share video highlights in real time.

According to reports in the Financial Times, this latest match-up between broadcasters and social network companies will have the aim of promoting not just the pay-TV provider’s core sports package but also its NOW TV over-the-top service which offers premium content such as the Champions League as well as English Premier League football. As part of the deliverable for the Barça game, the Sky Sports Twitter account will share highlights including instant replays of goals and post-match interviews.
“We know that lots of people want access to great Sky Sports content but would rather dip in and out rather than having a full subscription,” the FT quoted NOW TV director Gidon Katz as saying. “Sharing UEFA Champions League clips in real-time on social platforms helps us to highlight the benefits of instant, pay-as-you-go access to Sky Sports via NOW TV.”
