Filmin, El Corte Ingles in deal to broaden VOD business

The Spanish online video-on-demand (VOD) platform Filmin is aiming to broaden its customer base through a deal with Spanish shopping centre chain El Corte Inglés.
The El Corte Inglés' brand is one of the strongest in Spain among traditional buyers and Filmin is looking to take advantage of this and increase customers for the online platform.
Filmin has been already integrated into El Corte Inglés' website – which features extra security for those clients not confident about buying online – offering visitors the chance to rent films or buy digital copies which can be watched on various connected devices. What is still not available, however, is the subscription option which Filmin offers on its own website.
The shopping centre's site is user-friendly and sells Filmin's catalogue as an independent offer with a focus on quality films, whether commercially successful or not.
This is the first time in Spain that an online video platform has entered into partnership with a physical shop, although Wuaki.tv is working with Rakuten, the online shopping mall. Spain's online video platforms are looking for new customers in a market of increasing competition, but with great growth expectations.
