Indian direct-to-home (DTH) TV platform Tata Sky has deployed a live streaming service from Cisco to enable multiscreen services on mobile devices.
Tata Sky subscribers will now be able to watch live, on-demand and catch-up video content via the Cisco Videoscape Video Everywhere thin-client user interface application. The service has initially been rolled out for iOS devices such as Apple iPads and iPhones, with Android-based devices to be supported soon.
"Our subscribers will be able to take the video experience with them on the move, thereby transforming their handheld device into a fully-functional TV screen with an interface which is clean, simple and easy to navigate," said Vikram Mehra, chief commercial officer, Tata Sky.
Sue Taylor, vice president sales, Cisco Service Provider Video Software Solutions, Asia Pacific, added: "We are excited to work with Tata Sky on this journey of providing next-generation experience to its subscribers. Furthermore, Tata Sky will be able to improve subscribers' loyalty, speed time to market of new services and service enhancements as well as assure high quality even over unmanaged networks and devices."
Tata Sky, a joint venture between the Tata Group and Star TV, is the first platform in Asia to deploy Cisco's Videoscape Video Everywhere technology.
