Switzerland's national telco Swisscom has launched a high speed Internet service offering a data rate of 1Gbps. 650,000 households covered by Swisscom's fibre-to-the home (FTTH) network can use the service.

The high speed access can be ordered as an option to the Vivo Casa 5 subscription package for an additional monthly fee of CHF100 (€80).
Another new offering is the 300Mbps for CHF20 per month. Furthermore, all Vivo Casa 5 customers now automatically surf the net with 100Mbps instead of the current data rate of 50Mbps - for an unchanged monthly fee of CHF149.
Swisscom will invest CHF1.75 billion into upgrading its broadband network this year. The high speed service will be available to more than 2.3 million households by 2015.
