Aereo has announced that its Aereo app for Android will now support devices running the Android operating system 4.1. The app, which was released in a public beta on 22 October, is available to all Aereo members.

"We have been hard at work to expand the number of devices compatible with Aereo," said Aereo CEO Chet Kanojia. "With the addition of Android 4.1 compatibility, more consumers will have the ability to access Aereo's technology on more devices, giving people choice and control over how they watch television. We're continuing to add new features that improve the consumer experience and our team is very focused on continuing to expand to more cities. It's an exciting time for Aereo as we continue to grow across the country."
For $8 per month, consumers gain access to local broadcast feeds over the Internet, and 20 hours of DVR storage. The service is available to consumers residing in the following metropolitan areas: New York City, Boston, Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Detroit and Denver. Aereo will launch additional cities throughout the remainder of 2013 and into 2014.
Aereo's technology works on 'smart' devices from tablets to phones to laptop computers. In addition to the Aereo app for Android, Aereo is supported on iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, Chrome, Internet Explorer 9, Firefox, Safari, Opera, AppleTV (via airplay) and Roku platforms.
