Discover Digital, form African OTT partnership

Rebecca Hawkes | 12-11-2013 and Discover Digital are to promote over-the-top (OTT) video platforms to deliver educational and entertainment content in remote and poorly connected areas of South Africa.

The deal, which was concluded at trade show AfricaCom, will see the hybrid IPTV software developer manage the project from its headquarters in Cork, Ireland.

"The African market offers a unique opportunity for a hybrid OTT and digital content delivery offering," said John Watson, chairman of South Africa's Discover Digital. "We aim to be a key player in the video-on-demand (VOD) entertainment market in partnerships with both fixed line and mobile network operators and provide greater access to key educational content."

Joe Costello, Ireland's Minister for Trade & Development, who was in South Africa on a trade mission, added: "The agreement between and Discover Digital will create jobs in both Ireland and Africa. It marks's entry into the African market, which is increasingly a key growth market for Irish companies."
