Swiss cable operators have recorded growing demand for their Internet services: 1.03 million customers surfed the net through cable Internet on 30 September 2013, according to Swisscable.

The cable companies have won 106,100 new Internet customers in the past 12 months, up by 11.5%. "Fast Internet stays very much in demand. The cable networks are in the comfortable position of being able to offer powerful Internet services with bandwidths of up to 150Mbps throughout the country," Swisscable CEO Claudia Bolla-Vincenz said.

80,500 new customers signed up for cable telephony, an increase of 14.7%, bringing the total to almost 630,000 customers. The number of cable TV customers, however, dropped by 2.9% to 2.7 million.

Swisscable considers the increased competition in the digital TV market to be the reason for this loss of almost 81,000 customers.
