Altech Multimedia is to supply new generation set-top boxes (STBs) to DBS Satellite Services, the owner of Israel's YES satellite TV platform. Encryption will be provided by Cisco.

The new design set-top box is based on the Broadcom platform, utilising BCM7354 SoC chipset, and features a single DVB-S/S2 tuner, Internet data connectivity, an internal flash-disk module for controlled video-on-demand functionality and is powered by Cisco middleware.

"The negotiations are complete and we are thrilled to have signed with YES in Israel, our long-time customer, to offer this amazing and powerful new set-top box," said Bartolomeo Caputo, managing director of Altech Multimedia in Europe.

"Combining the engineering essence of Altech Multimedia as the manufacturer and Cisco as the software and encryption driving force, once again led to a remarkable new product."
The product is expected to be available from April 2014.
