Spanish company Amper is to provide digital set-top boxes (STBs) to Telefónica for its operations in Latin America.
Amper looks to strengthen its international position through this agreement, Osmundo Lúquez, commercial director at the company, told Europa Press.
The first delivery will be for Peru's market, starting with 18,000 STBs to provide pay-TV for Telefónica's direct-to-home (DTH) platforms. Throughout the next year, Amper says the number will grow to up to 200,000 units for the whole region, creating an income of €4.4 million for the technology provider.
The company already has a solid position in Latin America. During Q3, 81% of Amper's business was conducted out of Spain, with 61% being in Latin America.
The company has its strongest market position in Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador, but intends to reinforce its operations in México, said to be the TV market with the greatest growth potential in the region. In addition, Amper intends to enter Chile and some smaller countries, especially in the Caribbean region.
Amper is an engineering company based in Spain but operating in Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa, having offices in Madrid, Sao Paulo and Miami. The firm focuses on communications – data processing, domestic digital technology and next generation networks, among other services – security and defence.
