German technical service provider Media Broadcast will make its multithek interactive multimedia service available to DTH satellite households when it launches on Astra (19.2° East) on 3 December.

The hybrid solution, distributed within the Media Broadcast platform on transponder 113 (12.633 GHz H, SR 22,000, FEC 5/6), will enable satellite viewers to access, for example, the catch-up TV services operated by public broadcasters ARD and ZDF and commercial TV group ProSiebenSat.1 and music TV channel Muzu.TV on their conventional TV sets through the Internet.
The latest addition is the video-on-demand service Kymba which offers commercial-free movies and series for children in several European languages. Access to Kymba costs €5 per month. The programmes can also be ordered and paid for individually.
The move marks the first time that fee-based content is available at multithek. Another addition are games which can directly be accessed and played with the remote control.
To use multithek, a TV set with an integrated satellite receiver is needed or a set-top box compliant with multimedia standard HbbTV and connected to the Internet. The data rate should be at least 2Mbps.
Media Broadcast launched the multithek for DTT households in February 2013. The company indicated at that time that the service would be rolled out on further distribution platforms including cable and satellite.
