Spanish audiovisual industry looks to Asia

Spain's audiovisual industry will be well represented at the Asia Television Forum (ATF) this week in Singapore, as companies look to expand into the Asian market.

The Spanish delegation is organised by FAPAE and supported by the public export institute ICEX and Singapore's Spanish commercial office. Under the banner Audiovisual from Spain, producers and distributors will be seeking to improve Spain's presence in the Asian audiovisual market - a market in which Latin American producers have so been successful.
ATF is one of the largest events of its kind in Asia, with over 4,000 professional visitors. The Spanish delegation is composed of 16 companies, covering different fields. Baleuko, Basque Films, Basque Stream, BRB International, EITB, Explora Films, Eiken Basque Audiovisual, Goldbee, Imira Entertainment, Mediaset España, Motion Pictures, Onza Distribution, Pausoka, Sugar Factory, Televisió de Calalunya and The Blackout Project will be representing the country.
Despite being one of the largest markets in the world, only 6% of Spanish audiovisual exports were sold to Asia in 2012. According to FAPAE, several countries in the region have an increasing TV industry but don't have a strong national production network to supply content. Spain's industry aims to fill this hole, focusing on animation and children's programming. To this end a number of Spanish companies will also be attending the Asian Animation Summit (AAS), held in Phuket, Thailand, from 9-11 December.
