Barenboim to lead EBU's Vienna New Year concert

Daniel Barenboim will conduct the 2014 Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (VPO) New Yearís Concert that will broadcast to a combined audience of up to 50 million people in more than 80 countries as part of a partnership agreement involving 43 members of the EBU.

A high definition recording of the concert by Austrian public broadcaster ORF will be distributed globally on the EBUís Eurovision and Euroradio satellite and fibre networks.

The concert is the key piece of an exclusive portfolio of three classical concerts which form part of a distribution agreement which runs until 2017. In keeping with New Year tradition, the VPO will present a programme from the repertoire of the Johann Strauss family.

EBU Members participating in the 2014 New Year's broadcast include pubcasters such as Belgium's RTBF and VRT, Denmark's DR, Estonia's ERR, Finland's YLE, France's France 2, Italy's Rai, Norway's NRK, Spain's RTVE, Sweden's SVT, Switzerland's SRF, TSI and RTS and the UK's BBC.
