As it ramps up its portfolio of original content, leading over-the-top (OTT) service provider Netflix has announced its first ever original series for children.

Launching on Christmas Eve for the key demographic in all territories, Netflix is to unveil the global television debut of DreamWorks Animation’s Turbo FAST series, featuring the popular character Turbo and his Fast Action Stunt Team.
Turbo FAST was produced by DreamWorks Animation Television with production services provided by Titmouse, and is based on characters created by David Soren from the DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture Turbo. The producers include Ben Kalina and Jennifer Ray, and executive producers include Chris Prynoski.
The stunt team boasts ‘legions’ of fans from their appearance in the DreamWorks Animation feature filmTurbo, which opened in cinemas around the globe earlier this year and has already grossed more than $280 million. The new OTT TV show will dig deeper into the personalities of the characters.
“We’ve long said that Netflix is revolutionising the television industry and now we are thrilled to officially be a part of it,” said Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation. “They have been fantastic partners whose vision has given our characters an amazing platform to be enjoyed by families around the world.”
“We are excited to be working with the gifted storytellers at DreamWorks Animation to deliver Turbo FAST, our first original kids series, to families around the world this holiday season,” added Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix. “With new episodes on their way in the coming months, kids will have something to look forward to all year.”
