Germany's national telco Deutsche Telekom will expand the video-on-demand (VOD) portal of its IPTV platform Entertain with subscribers being able to access the catch-up TV service from public broadcaster ZDF directly from their TV set from 11 December 2013.

The ZDFmediathek service at Entertain will contain all functions such as pause, search and marking of content.

The offering, which is free of charge for Entertain customers, will cover full-length programmes from ZDF, ZDFneo, ZDFinfo, ZDFkultur and 3sat.

ZDFmediathek can be accessed when one of the six TV channels is watched by pressing the red button on the remote control or by selecting the service form Entertain's catch-up TV portal TV-Mediatheken. A special ZDF search feature assists viewers in finding the programmes they are looking for.

With ZDFmediathek, the online video library and the catch-up services part of the Entertain VOD line-up will contain a total of 35,000 movies, series, news programmes and documentaries. In addition to ZDF, more than 30 other TV channels contribute content, for example DMAX, Sport1, Syfy, TNT Serie and Disney Junior.

The deployment at Entertain marks the first time that ZDFmediathek becomes available on a third-party platform in addition to the broadcaster's own Internet and HbbTV portal.

Telekom wants to integrate the catch-up services of further broadcasters to its VOD platform, for example ARD-Mediathek from public broadcaster ARD.
