Panasonic has launched iROKO TV, the first ever Nollywood connected television application, for its Smart Viera sets in Nigeria.
iROKOtv, which has been dubbed the African Netflix, will provide Panasonic Smart Viera TV viewers with over 5,000 Nollywood streamed movies on demand.
"We are very happy to have collaborated with one of the world's leading electronics manufacturers and this exclusive partnership between Panasonic and iROKOtv symbolises a new era for Nollywood movie distribution," said Adi Nduka-Agwu, head of business development, iROKOtv.
"Smart Viera Users worldwide will have the same awesome user experience and access to all the features as they do when logging into www.irokotv.com, however they will be able to stream movies directly onto their TVs."
iROKOtv provides 95% of its content for free, however its Plus service offers three new Nollywood films each week for a US$5 monthly subscription.
Nduka-Agwu says there are currently around one million unique visitors to the iROKOtv site every month from 178 countries around the world.
