Colombia's Caracol TV has launched a second-screen app, Parlar TV, which has already reached top position in the country's app store. The software is powered by Applicaster and has already claimed great success during The Voice Colombia's live voting.
In addition to reality TV, the app offers news, entertainment and sports programming, enriched with video-on-demand (VOD) and social TV activities. The live feed tool integrates not only the social network updates from Twitter and Facebook, but also broadcaster activities.
The Voice was the first show featured on Parlar TV, through which Caracol TV has attempted to accommodate the Colombian audience's new viewing habits. Via the app, viewers can share their experience of the show online, commenting, voting and playing trivia.
The app also integrates ads, which, together with the great success achieved among the audience, has driven Caracol TV to plan on introducing commercial sponsorships within the second-screen activities in order to further increase viewer participation.
Applicaster has The Voice as a partner in The Netherlands, Mexico and Israel. "Caracol TV is an innovative TV player, and as it expands its offering internationally, we expect to see additional new media initiatives, offering viewers more ways for TV interaction and participation," said Idan Maron, VP production at Applicaster.
"The social buzz and commercial potential of this additional viewer participation is rapidly growing in the region, and we are keen on serving our viewers and extending the reach of our content through interaction and social features," added Camilo Acuña, VP programming at Caracol TV.
