EiTB expands digital network in Spain

Spain's Euskal Telebista (EiTB), a broadcaster based in the Basque Country, is to expand its digital network through the bordering region of Navarra, although the move is still dependent upon permission from the regional government.

EiTB already has an analogue broadcasting network in Navarra, but some bureaucratic and political issues have been preventing it from expanding its digital reach. EiTB will take on the project in two steps, starting first with the digitisation of the El Perdón and San Cristóbal broadcasting centres.

This process will enable viewers in Navarra to receive ETB1, ETB2, ETB3 and ETBK Sat – EiTB's digital signals – via the regular DTT connection, whereas currently only ETB1 and ETB2 are available in analogue.

The first phase of digitisation will affect nearly 50% of Navarra's population. The next phase hasn't been given a start date, but EiTB intends to complete the process as soon as possible.

Navarra's regional government has not yet given permission for the expansion, but the Basque company has confirmed its intention. This is the second time in recent years that EiTB has attempted to extend its digital network to Navarra, where it has a steady audience.
