Colombia's pay-TV growth still driven by DTH

Colombia's pay-TV sector achieved 4.59 million subscriptions by the end of October, according to the latest report from ANTV, the country's TV authority.
The sector has added over 200,000 customers since the beginning of the year, representing a 6.5% increase, mostly due to direct-to-home (DTH) services.
According to the national agency, not all operators have yet given in their figures, so there could be an even higher growth percentage for the sector. Despite the high numbers, the market seems to be stabilising, as most of the growth was experienced during Q1 (135,000 new subscriptions). Indeed, from September to October there were only 2,000 new customers.
Cable subscriptions are still topping the figures at 3.3 million, although this number actually represents a 3,000 customer drop since July. On the other hand, satellite services continue to grow at 1.2 million subscriptions, 20,000 more than in September and 180,000 additions since the beginning of the year.
Telmex's Claro is the leading company among Colombia's pay-TV platforms. The Mexican telco has over 40% of the market with over two million customers. Une Colombia is in second place with over one million subscriptions and DirecTV is third with 860,000 users of its satellite service.
