Romanian communication market grows

Romtelecom, new offices 2011Data published by the Romanian regulator ANCOM indicates that total revenues in the provision of electronic communications services in the country in 2012 amounted to RON14.83 billion (approximately €3.3 billion), or 0.2% more than a year earlier.
Revenues from the retail sector, up 1.8% on 20111, accounted for 76% of the total. Of the latter, equivalent to RON11.25 billion, internet access services claimed RON2.16 billion and audiovisual services RON1.58 billion.
Other data published by ANCOM shows that there were a total of 6.03 million subscribers to audiovisual services in Romania at the end of 2012, or 5% more than a year earlier.
Of these, 3.80 million opted for cable (+6.4%), 2.19 million DTH (+2.3%) and 37,000 IPTV (+33.9%).
