Airtel claims 400% rise in mobile video use

Indian telecommunications giant Bharti Airtel has registered 400% growth in mobile TV consumption, according to its annual consumer trend report, which points to entertainment, sport and news as the top three content categories.
Increased sales of larger screened smartphones have apparently led to the surge in Indians viewing mobile video – a trend not exclusive to Airtel – finds Airtel Mobitude 2013.
According to a report in The Times of India, a jump in viewers has also been witnessed by the nexGTv app Vuclip and Ditto TV – aggregators of mobile video content for Indian consumption.
"This year's verdict shows that mobile TV has witnessed the highest traction in viewership, establishing the fact that customers are now catching up on TV shows on the move. Data usage continues to grow at a fast pace," Govind Rajan, chief marketing officer (customer business), Bharti Airtel told the daily broadsheet.
Vodafone has also seen its data subscribers grow to 42.5 million, or around 27% of its customer base in September 2013, according to the report.
