A partnership to bring a raft of educational television content direct-to-home (DTH) is being formed in India by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) and public broadcaster Prasar Bharati.

Part of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology, the project had hoped to launch 1,000 DTH TV channels, but was unable to get a licence from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, according to the Press Trust of India (PTI).

The Committee of Secretaries has now, says the PTI, suggested that a Special Purpose Vehicle, such as Prasar Bharati, will provide a solution to the problem.

Prasar Bharati, which operates the Doordarshan TV network, will reportedly secure the permission to broadcast the channels while the HRD Ministry will create the educational content.
