Spain's TVE has decided to give a Christmas present to sport fans and has started to broadcast Teledeporte in HD. The sports signal has appeared in DTT and is apparently in beta, although there hasn't been any official confirmation from the public channel.
Teledeporte HD is placed in the RGE2 corporation's multiple channel, which is being used by TVE HD and the regular Teledeporte broadcast. The radioelectric space for the HD signal had been empty until now.
Teledeporte HD has been a project of the public channel since the Beijing Olympics in 2008, but the channel was finally only available through pay-TV during the Games and stopped broadcasting after they finished.
TVE's sports signal has a stable audience, which is also one of the largest among secondary DTT channels. Its programming covers all kind of sports, configuring an audiovisual offer without a competitor in Spain's free-to-air TV.
HD is gradually taking an important place in Spain's DTT. With Teledeporte there are already six channels in high definition: TVE HD, Antena3 HD, Cuatro HD, Telecinco HD and laSexta HD.
