French commercial channel TF1 achieved 99 of last year's 100 best audience ratings, claiming the result is due to "the editorial renewal strategy started three years ago".

Last year, according to figures from Médiamétrie, a TV show needed to gather at least 7.4 million viewers to get into the top 100. 30% of the best all-genres audiences are made up of new programmes, TF1 says.

TF1's success is mostly due to entertainment and reality TV shows such as La boîte à Musique des Enfoirés, which has a 53.7% audience share with 13.6 million viewers, and The Voice season two.

News and sports also get big audiences, with the France vs. Ukraine football match seeing a 45.5% audience share.

US series are also well represented in this top 100, led by The Mentalist, which peaks at 9. 4 million viewers and a 34.2% audience share, along with the police series Unforgettable.

The top place for a French drama series goes to Pep's (8.7 million viewers), while the international co-production Crossing Lines achieved 7.6 million viewers and a 28.3% audience share.

French public channel France 2 appears at 50th place in the top 100 thanks to an interview with President François Hollande.
