Ecuador's public telco, Corporación Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CNT), is to launch a VOD and TV everywhere platform, which it is already testing online. The pay-TV and satellite provider has not unveiled the price plans or any further details, but the service's website is already running.
CNT Play has also started to be promoted among its pay-TV subscribers, offering VOD and online programming of TNT, Cartoon Network, MTV, Fox, Moviecity and Discovery Channel. Nevertheless, the website is almost empty and only a few programmes can be watched right now.
Currently, mostly national productions are available on demand: 10 movies, 3 documentaries, the 20 chapters of the documentary La Cortina de los Años and the entertainment shows 593 Ecuador, Las Chicas CNT and Ignotum. The platform aims to offer a wide sports coverage as well, focusing on Brazil's World Cup.
CNT offers telephone, Internet and pay-TV through a direct-to-home (DTH) network with SD and HD signals. The company is the market's second operator, with around 13% share, far from DirecTV, which has 35% of the audience connected to its DTH platform.
