Russia eyes satellite launches

RussiaRussia’s Ministry of Communications (Minsvyaz) plans to launch six communications satellites this year.

Quoting the Ministry, RBC reports that a major upgrade of its satellites got under way with the launch of Express-AM5 on December 26, 2013 and that the satellite will provide coverage of the Far East and Siberia, the services it distributes including digital TV (first and second federal multiplexes, as well as regional multiplexes).

Express-AM5 will become fully operational in May 2014, with an expected lifespan of 15 years.
